Pelosi trying to get Kosmas off the hook on health care?

U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, a Florida Democrat who voted against the original health care bill, is under growing pressure from her party to join the "yes" side. She got the velvet treatment Thursday in a one-on-one meeting with the president.

"We had a very open dialogue," Kosmas told the Buzz Tuesday after a meeting on Obama's planned changes to NASA. Did the president offer any concessions on space in exchange for support on health care? Kosmas remained mum as she stepped onto an elevator. Her office later said there were no agreements and that Kosmas expressed her views on both subjects.

"I'm still waiting to see what the bill is going to be and the content as well as the process," Kosmas said of health care.

There is a possibility she may not have to vote at all. Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested the House may be able to pass the Senate proposal without having to vote on it at all -- employing an arcane process known as "deem and pass."

Republicans are outraged. "This is sweeping legislation that will impact every American and one-sixth of our economy," said Rep. Vern Buchanan of Sarasota. "The American people deserve to have a recorded vote so they can hold their elected officials accountable.”
