Pelosi's loyalty threatens Wasserman Schultz rise
U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, is facing dimming odds that she'll take over as chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The reason: Nancy Pelosi.
Pelosi is closer to Rep. Steve Israel of New York, the current favorite according to Democratic insiders, and Pelosi may have the final word. Democratic People close to Wasserman Schultz, who has served as a vice chair of the DCCC, say she is the better fit and has proven herself more capable in fundraising than Israel. A third candidate is also in the running, New York's Joseph Crowley.
The race should be decided by next week. Pelosi is in a race of her own for minority leader. Wasserman Schultz is said to support her.
