People's Express takes off from Panama City

October

PANAMA CITY -- Independent candidate for U.S. Senate Gov. Charlie Crist said Friday that there was no deal in place for Crist to caucus with Democrats if U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek dropped out of the race.

Crist said the stories of the brokered deal between former President Bill Clinton, Crist and Meek was true, but declined to fill in some of the missing details. Crist said that he did have discussions with the White House about the plan, but Crist wouldn't say with who.

"They were just interested in staying what's up with what was going on," Crist said.

Crist also said he didn't remember who started the discussions -- Clinton or Crist.

"I really can't remember and it really doesn't matter," Crist said.

Crist was starting a three-day Florida bus tour Friday morning with a pancake breakfast in Panama City. Crist was scheduled to head on a bus the campaign is calling The People's Express next to Destin and Pensacola.
