Pinellas scraps campaign ethics plan, Welch announces re-election

County Commissioner Karen Seel had wanted to drain some of the venom from political campaigning, but Tuesday night her fellow board members said her proposed ordinance lacked teeth.

After it became clear her measure had no chance of passing, the commission tabled the issue. Undaunted, Seel said she would try to organize a citizens' group capable of policing the campaign antics of politicians running for office in Pinellas. More here.

In other Pinellas political news, County Commissioner Ken Welch tells Buzz we can put to rest those rumors about him running for St. Pete mayor. Citing "unfinished business," including county homeless and affordable housing initiatives, he says he's running for another commission term.
