POLITICO casting for independent presidential candidates; vote with them

Our friends at POLITICO are looking for a few good candidates and they want your help.

To kick off the “POLITICO Primary,” Executive Editor Jim VandeHei and Chief White House Correspondent Mike Allen have selected, and made the case for, five people who would be compelling independent candidates: Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State; Erskine Bowles, co-chairman of the president’s deficit commission; David Petraeus, CIA director; John Chambers, CEO of Cisco Systems; Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State.

Readers are encouraged to make their own picks here or via Twitter, using the hashtag #politicoprimary.

Nominations will be taken until 5 p.m. Friday. Voting begins Monday and ends Wednesday. The winner will be announced Thursday, Oct. 13.

The St. Petersburg Times and POLITICO have partnered for coverage of the 2012 presidential election.
