PolitiFact Florida: Alex Sink says House GOP rushed through pro-oil drilling measure, but stalled on oil ban
During the 51-minute special session in the House yesterday, Speaker Larry Cretul said that House leaders didn't have enough time for reflection and review of a state constitutional ban on oil drilling proposed by Gov. Charlie Crist.
"The fact remains that (Crist) has called us here at the last possible moment to consider a constitutional amendment for which he never proposed any language, and permitted far too little time for reflection and review," Cretul said. "This is a terrible way to propose constitutional changes."
Yet while four days wasn't enough time to come up with a constitutional amendment banning drilling, five days was enough time in 2009 to potentially open up state waters to drilling, CFO Alex Sink pointed out.
