Protesting Fla Chamber, union members to yank millions from banks
Labor organizations throughout Central Florida plan to withdraw "close to ten million dollars" from banks affiliated with the Florida Chamber of Commerce, in retalliation for the Chamber's support for legislation opposed by public employees unions.
From an AFSCME release: ... The Chamber used fake images of fire fighter and teachers to lobby for legislation that would silence worker’s voice both on the job and in the political process. Despite repeated calls for the Chamber of Commerce to cease and desist, the attacks on regular working people continue. The Chamber is funded in part by donations from the banking industry. Workers throughout Florida will be withdrawing their organizational and personal finances from the banking institutions that support the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Regions Bank, Bank of America, SunTrust, PNC and Wachovia stand to lose more than ten million dollars during the first wave of withdrawals.
