Pruitt Picks Carlton, Webster
Want to know how Senate President-Elect Ken Pruitt plans to keep a lid on inner-caucus squabbling among Republicans? Lisa Carlton, R-Osprey, and Dan Webster, R-Winter Garden.
Pruitt is faced with warring factions among the Senate's 26 GOP members after Sen. Alex Villalobos of Miami thwarted his conservative Republican challenger in the primary. Pruitt's antidote, apparently, is picking two of the most even-keeled members of the Republican caucus Monday as Senate President Pro Tempore (Carlton) and Senate Majority Leader (Webster).
"We heard Floridians loud and clear on Election Day - we got the message that they want their elected leaders to pull together and to solve problems," Pruitt said in a press release announcing his picks, his first since Election Day. "My goal is to lead a responsive and proactive Senate - one that will do the work of the people."
