Putnam says 'hypocrite' attack is desperate
U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam laid into Democrats who say he's a hypocrite for voting against the federal stimulus but working with others to get a waiver Florida needed to secure education funding under the massive spending plan. (waiver background here)
"They’re flailing around because it has been such a miserable failure. Unemployment has continued to rise despite spending all of that borrowed money on a stimulus that hasn’t worked," the Bartow Republican told the Buzz this afternoon.
"Their flimsy argument is that I had the audacity to ask that Florida -- not my district, not my town, not my kids’ school, the whole state -- be given a waiver so that Florida kids can actually get the same stimulus treatment as every other state in America. So it’s pretty weak to say that that’s hypocritical when I voted against a bill that I knew shortchanged Florida, among other things that were wrong with it. Why was it not hypocritical for someone to vote for a bill that drove us deeper into debt that they openly knew did not treat Florida education fairly?"
