Quinones Stepping down
As we Buzzed a couple weeks ago, state Rep. John Quinones is stepping down from the legislature for more local public service. Democrats will have a solid shot at picking off that seat. Democrat Jim Davis won that district with more than 52 percent of the vote last year, Alex Sink got 61 percent and Bill Nelson 68 percent.
Said House Speaker Marco Rubio spokeswoman Jill Chamberlin: "Speaker Rubio regrets he is leaving the House but believes he will do a fine job if elected to county commission.Because of the representative's unique role as the first Puerto Rican Republican ever elected to the Florida Legislature--the Speaker hopes other qualified individuals of similar descent will step forward and consider becoming candidates to succeed him."
UPDATE: Gov. Crist signed an order for a special primary election on March 20th with a special election on April 24th.
