Rep. Connie Mack laying groundwork to run against Bill Nelson in 2012
Rep. Connie Mack IV is making a play for the U.S. Senate, where his father once served. The Fort Myers Republican had token opposition in November but put out this unusual fundraising solicitation (click image to enlarge) just before Election Day.
The letter has no disclaimer and lacks any reference that Mack was on the ballot for the U.S. House. But it includes a healthy shot at Florida's Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, who is up for re-election in 2012.
Other possible candidates angling behind the scenes: Interim Sen. George LeMieux and Senate President Mike Haridopolos, among others.
Mack could be well positioned given his well-known surname.
