'Rep. Saunders, you are recognized'
Rep. Carl Domino is a longtime advocate of Save Our Homes and making it "portable." So no surprise that the Jupiter Republican is hanging on even as tax legislation being discussed tonight ignores his passion. In fact, Save Our Homes would be phased out.
Domino engaged Rep. Dean Cannon in debate and challenged numbers that point to Save Our Homes' negative effect on businesses and other non-homestead property. Back and forth they went, the veteran legislator gaming the future House speaker from Winter Park.
After a few minutes, Rep. Dennis Baxley tried to turn things down a notch. "I want you to feel free to discuss, but let's try to keep it on the joint resolution," said Baxley, who was presiding over the session. Domino began again.
But Speaker Marco Rubio had enough. After running into the chamber, he took the gavel and pounded repeatedly. "Rep. (Ron) Saunders you are recognized for debate," Rubio said.
Domino, 63, slumped into his chair as Rubio retreated to his office.
