Former Secret Service agent Al Concordia has been named director of security for the Republican National Convention Aug. 27-30 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

Concordia has worked for more than three decades in security planning and emergency preparedness and response for both public and private sector employers. As a Secret Service agent for 20 years, he provided protection for several presidents. He also has worked with the Philadelphia Eagles, conducted security risk management for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and served as assistant sergeant-at-arms at the U.S. Senate.

Last month, Concordia was part of a group, along with Police Chief Jane Castor and other convention representatives, that met with restaurateurs in downtown Tampa to discuss convention security measures.

Republican National Convention chief executive officer William Harris said in a statement that Concordia’s “extensive background in planning and implementing these types of measures speaks volumes” about his ability to handle the convention’s security planning.

A native of Philadelphia, Concordia graduated from Villanova University with a master’s certificate in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in modern languages. He also is a certified protection professional with the American Society of Industrial Security.
