Republican Party of Florida settles with whistleblower

Associated Press: The Republican Party of Florida is keeping secret a settlement it reached with a former employee who accused party leaders of improper spending.

Susan Wright filed a whistleblower lawsuit in August 2010, saying she had been fired from her job as office manager because she questioned expenses made by top party officials such as former chairman Jim Greer and on behalf of former Gov. Charlie Crist.

Greer was arrested last year and accused of steering money to a shell company he controlled. Greer, who has pleaded not guilty, is awaiting trial. The party denied it had improperly fired Wright. Court filings show both sides agreed to drop the lawsuit in September.

Both Wright's attorney and a party spokesman say a confidential settlement prevents them from disclosing the terms.
