Revolving door: Cliff Stearns joins 'strategic communications' shop
Former Rep. Cliff Stearns, who lost a GOP primary to tea partier Ted Yoho, has a new job at APCO Worldwide as a "senior advisor and member of the company's International Advisory Council," according to a news release.
APCO also happens to be a big-time lobbying shop. House rules prohibit him from lobbying his old colleagues for one year. An APCO spokeswoman said Stearns was not lobbying (and said she did not know if the firm employed lobbyists, which it does). She refused to name the clients he works on behalf, but said he was in Brussels recently talking about free trade.
Often after the one-year ban is up, the former members shift from "advisor" to lobbyist. Four of seven APCO Worldwide lobbyists in 2012 previously held government jobs, according to opensecrets.org.
Recent Florida reps who have gone on to lobby: Ron Klein and Allen Boyd.
