Rick Scott: I'm not good at sending messages

Gov. Rick Scott said today that he was not trying to send any message to environmentalists who are fuming over his decisions to put a shipyard executive in charge of environmental regulation and hire a former executive at a North Florida development company as head of the state agency charged with overseeing growth.

"I'm hiring good people. I'm not good at doing messages," said Scott, who won the governor's office on the strength of a $60 million ad campaign built around the "Let's Get to Work" slogan. "You guys followed me on the campaign. I'm not good at that stuff."

Scott, during the second Million Air gaggle today, also said he was aware that his new secretary of state, Kurt Browning, will be a so-called "double-dipper." His state salary will be on top of the state pension he's already getting.

"His qualifications were that important," Scott said. "I want to make sure that this office is run well and he'll do a great job for the 2012 election."
