Rick Scott visits Duval County's Republican Women's Club

Bureau chief Steve Bousquet calls in with this description of Rick Scott on the campaign trail: Scott spoke briefly to 150 members of the Republican Women’s Club of Duval County this afternoon. The event was held in an elegant, upscale country club ballroom south of downtown Jacksonville.

He received a polite reception, and most of the members were inquisitive and curious about where he stands on several issues.

“I’m fed up with where the country’s going,” Scott told the group. “We’re not following the Constitution. We’re spending money we don’t have.”

Scott, a thin balding man, was dressed in a dark blue suit and spoke quickly. Part of his speech was biographical, but he also highlighted his stance on immigration (“If you’re not legal, you should leave our state.”), taxes, government regulation and guns. He also said he is in favor of offshore drilling, noting it’s “not realistic” to ban the practice.
