Riding the Waves
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, the Florida Democrat facing a challenge this fall from GOP Rep. Katherine Harris, has dipped in his sizeable war chest, launching a television spot running across most of Florida -- and for the duration of the campaign.
The title is ''Everyday.'' It shows Nelson speaking, looking directly into the camera, interupted only by flashes of favorable news clips highlighting his work for consumer advocacy.Spokesman Bryan Gulley said the campaign plans to run the ad in 90 percent of the state, including the Tampa Bay area, until the election. The campaign plans other ads as well.
Although Gulley would not say how much the ad is costing, covering Florida with TV ads for a week costs nearly $2-million. The latest fund-raising reports showed Nelson with $12-million on hand.
Here's the script:
Nelson to camera:
"For me, it’s pretty simple.
You get up every day and do your job.
You don’t worry about what the big corporations and special interests want.
You don’t worry about whether you’re working with Democrats or Republicans.
You just try to do what’s right for the people.
If you do that, then you can get a lot done."
