RNC Chairman Priebus: Obama is "jellyfish" on same-sex marriage

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus sat down with Al Ruechel and me this morning for a Political Connections interview to air Sunday on Bay News 9. He's been in Tampa Bay for a couple days working on the convention and raising money.

He scoffed at President Barack Obama's sudden support for same-sex marriage: " don't know how it's going to play politically, but I think the problem that this president has is I think people are really seeing him as this jellyfish - this silliness of this evolving issue and then Biden trots out, maybe unknown and unrehearsed, but he pushes the envelope apparently and the the president comes out and he follows suit. "

Much as Mitt Romney's critics deride the presumptive presidential nominee and a chronic flip-flopper with no core, Priebus suggested the president's reversal points to Obama's calculated political nature.

"What's important here is I think Mitt Romney has been consistent in his view that marriage should be between one man and one woman. He hasn't vacillated like this president has. The president puts his finger up in the air and decides where the winds  are blowing and he's made a decision on this in dramatic fashion, of course,  as he always does.  But at the end of the day it takes away from what the real issues are in this country, which is too many people not working, too many people not making what they should make, and at the end of the day a president who has made a lot of promises but hasn't fulfilled any of them."
