Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorses Crist

cristkennedy.jpgRobert F. Kennedy Jr., environmentalist and nephew of the former president, appeared with and endorsed Charlie Crist today in Deerfield Beach.

"Throughout his career, Charlie Crist has been a champion for environmental protection, alternative energy and green economy jobs," Kennedy said in a statement. "On the other hand, tea party darling Marco Rubio has assumed the radical role of climate change denier. Charlie Crist is the only candidate who can do what we need to defeat Marco Rubio in November and deliver results for hard-working Americans in the United States Senate."

UPDATE: Kennedy had some tough words for Rubio and his supporters. He said Rubio was a "crackpot" because he opposes environmental policies like carbon cap-and-trade and described the tea party as an "angry" movement. Rubio "has a very radical vision, a very narrow vision, an I-can-be-as-stupid-as-I-want vision of this country, and that has a little bit of appeal to people when they're angry - but it is not a good long-term plan,'' Kennedy told dozens of people gathered at a diner.

Said Rubio spokesman Alex Burgos, "The name calling and partisan attacks Floridians saw today at Charlie Crist's rally are no different from what they are seeing in Crist's false, negative ads. The irony is that Crist says the reason he's running is to end the partisan bickering and return civility to Washington. Charlie Crist has proven once again that there's nothing he won't say or do to try to win an election."
