Rod Smith names Democratic leadership team
Florida Democratic Chairman Rod Smith today appointed members of his leadership team to help prepare for the 2012 election cycle.
U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, Florida Democratic Party Chairs Association Chair Alison Berke Morano, and Palm Beach County DEC Chairman Mark Alan Siegel are vice chairs; Jackson County DEC Chair Judy Mount, who has served as a vice chair since 2009, was reappointed to that position as well. First vice chair is Rhett Bullard, secretary is Rick Boylan, and treasurer is Alma Gonzalez.
“Today, I am pleased to announce these appointments as I start building my leadership team within the Florida Democratic Party. There is much work to be done as we focus on building the grassroots of the party, step up efforts to raise funds, and recruit Democratic candidates across Florida. With strong leaders including First Vice Chair Rhett Bullard, along with Vice Chairs Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Alison Berke Morano, Judy Mount, and Mark Alan Siegel, I am confident we will be celebrating great victories in 2012,” said Smith in a release.
Smith appointed Tallahassee City Commissioner Andrew Gillum -- who had considered challenging Smith for the top job -- to the newly created position as Youth, College, and Young Professional Outreach chair.
Also, Smith announced the creation of several select committees within the party, including a select committee to study whether the Florida Democratic Party should adopt a platform, which will be chaired by DNC Member Alan Clendenin. Another committee will study the rules governing endorsements by local parties, to be chaired by Mark Alan Siegel.
