Romney team showing Fla more love than Obama's

23

October

David Axelrod's pronouncement today that the Barack Obama campaign is "doubling down" on Florida makes sense given the tightness of the race (RealClear average has Romney leading by 1.9 percentage points) and the confidence the campaign has in its ground game and ability to capitalize on demographic changes in Florida.

At the same time, the most valuable campaign resource at this stage in the race is the time and availability of the nominee and his top surrogates. Keep an eye on where the candidates spend their time - and don't - in the final days of the campaign to see where the real battlegrounds are.

Obama held a rally in Delray Beach this morning and will be back in Tampa Thursday. Mitt Romney meanwhile is expected in Pasco County Saturday, as well as Pensacola and the Orlando area.

The number of Florida events by Mitt Romney, Ann Romney and Paul Ryan in October? 16. The number of Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and Joe Biden events in Florida this month? Six.

Republicans say this points to the Obama team being far more confident about winning Ohio (The RealClear average has Obama up 1.8 percentage points) than Florida. They may be right.

But it also may point to team Romney being far less confident about must-win Florida than they hoped to be at this point.
