Rubio may challenge Crist's compact

House Speaker Marco Rubio on the gaming compact:

“We have been advised by a noted Florida legal expert, former House Speaker and University of Florida law professor Jon Mills, that any gambling compact between the state and the Seminole Tribe is invalid without legislative ratification. We have asked our attorney to review the details of the compact to examine the Legislature’s legal options.”

Senate President Ken Pruitt was more measured: “I know the negotiations have been very difficult for the Governor. This is not an easy issue to deal with given his opposition to expanding gambling in Florida. We have not reviewed the language of the compact; once we have, we will work with Senators and our legal counsel to formulate the best course of action."
