House Speaker Marco Rubio has kept a campaign-like schedule in recent weeks, traveling the state to appear before civic groups and to give radio and TV interviews on property taxes. Now, the Miami Republican is taking a few days off.
The Rubio family is heading to Las Vegas.
Bloggers have suggested he is going to the gaming conference, where pal David Rivera and others will be, but Rubio said that is not the case. "I am not attending any events in connection with the gaming conference, although I have heard that it is being held this weekend in Las Vegas," he explained in an e-mail after being asked about the trip.
Rubio, who turned 36 last month, lived in Vegas from 1979 to 1985 (during which he developed anti-gambling views) and many family members remain. "There is no set schedule for the three days we will be there, other than to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends.
"I have made this trip every two years since we moved back to Florida from Nevada--it's become a routine. We chose this weekend because my wife, Jeanette, is expecting our fourth child soon and her doctors set next week as the last date she will be permitted to fly until after the baby arrives."
