Santorum's presidential bid began to take shape in Orlando in 2009
Rick Santorum seems like he just burst onto the presidential stage. but one of the first signs he would run came more than two years ago in Orlando.
On Sept. 11, 2009, he told an invite-only audience at the Catholic Leadership Conference he was "thinking about it" and asked for prayers to guide his decision. "Six months ago I would not have spent ten seconds on your question, but it's not six months ago," Santorum said. "I see that, I hate to be calculating, but I see that 2012 is not just throwing somebody out to be eaten, but it's a real opportunity for success."
Another Florida tidbit: Santorum was college buddies at Penn State with Tom Feeney, who went on to be Florida House speaker and a member of Congress.
