Scott declines high-speed rail money, one final time; DOT will send $2.4 billion to other states

Gov. Rick Scott has rejected -- for a final time -- the $2.4 billion for high speed rail and the federal transportation department says it will send the money to other states.

"I know that states across America are enthusiastic about receiving additional support to help bring America’s high-speed rail network to life and deliver all its economic benefits to their citizens," U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said after talking with Scott this morning. A number of other states, including California and New York, have been lobbying for a share of Florida's money ever since Scott first announced his decision last month.

Still unknown is how the Florida Supreme Court will rule on the lawsuit challenging Scott's authority to reject the $2.4 billion in federal stimulus money for the Orlando to Tampa rail line. A decision is coming today. (UPDATE: The court ruled in favor of Scott.)
