Scott: Do they call it the Tampa Bay region?
UPDATE: As Tampa's WTSP-Channel 10 chased the "region" angle Wednesday, Gov. Scott's spokeswoman said the governor's comment "was simply small talk. To imply anything further is ridiculous," Amy Graham said. "The governor was thrown off by the word 'region,' but obviously he is very familiar with and fond of the 'Tampa Bay region.'^" Graham noted that Scott threw out the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays' opening night home game last April and recently attended a Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp and had lunch with Bucs players.
The front-page news of the St. Petersburg Times' name-change to Tampa Bay Times was late in reaching the Governor's Office Tuesday. Gov. Rick Scott was having coffee and doughnuts with reporters in his chief of staff's office when he was told the news. "That's interesting," Scott said, munching on a doughnut. "Does the region call itself the Tampa Bay region? Is that what it calls itself? The region does?"
Scott recalled his meeting with the Times' editorial board and discussing the paper's competition with the Tampa Tribune. "I asked about the competition. They're clearly competing with the Tampa paper," Scott said. "You guys are in a tough business. There's no easy business, though."
