Scott-O-Meter: Gov. Rick Scott keeps school data promise, compromises on economic development
PolitiFact Florida revved up the Scott-O-Meter today, updating our ratings on two of Gov. Rick Scott's campaign promises.
Scott's now kept more than half the promises we've rated (not including those still In the Works).
Scott said he would "eliminating overlapping economic development agencies," replacing them with "one group" that would assist local economic development agencies and serve as a statewide recruitment agency. A law this summer created the Department of Economic Opportunity and streamlined the state's work, but some standalone agencies remain. We rate his promise a Compromise.
The governor also said he would provide parents with annual financial reports on schools. An educational accountability law passed this year requires school districts to post budget information online in "terms that are easily understandable to the public." We rate this Promise Kept.
