Screven Watson joins Aronberg campaign

Tallahassee-based Democratic strategist Screven Watson, who was a senior advisor on Rod Smith's '06 gubernatorial campaign, is serving as general consultant to Dave Aronberg's campaign for attorney general. And Smith's former finance director, Joe Perry, also is working on Aronberg's campaign.

Do we assume then that Smith won't wind up running for attorney general along with Aronberg and Dan Gelber? Not at all, said Watson who describes himself as "very close" to both. "I am helping Dave in any way that i can help him for the foerseeable future. If Rod Smith gets in this race I have a personal decision to make or I have a conflict of interest and I am pushed to the sidelines,'' said Watson, who is not being paid at this point. "I don't think Rod thinks his decision needs to be imminent...It's possible he can wait out the third quarter of '09 and see if either one of them gets traction over the other one."
