When New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the chairman of the Democratic Governors' Association, talked to reporters about his party's prospects in November, Florida was shown in red, indicating Charlie Crist would win if the election were held today. But Richardson said Jim Davis is "a moderate-conservative Democrat" who stands a good chance of winning the seat.

Asked what the party would be doing to help Davis, Richardson said, "We're going to make Florida a priority. We've had it as a toss-up. We think it's do-able. I'm going down there next week and I think every major Democratic leader is going to be helping. I think Davis has a moderate record, it's a pro-business record, it's a fiscally responsible record. He has managed to unify his primary opponent's people."

Richardson added, "We're going to go in there heavy." He then paused for a split-second and wryly asked Penny Lee, the group's executive director, "Do we have any money left?"
