Seeking endorsements, spilling secrets

Democratic state House 50 candidate Candidate happily showed up for a candidate interview by a group called Alliance for a Healthier Florida, hoping she might get an endorsement or some financial help. Leading the questioning, which she said included queries about the details of her campaign strategy, was Jack Hebert, who also happens to be a Republican consultant working with Republican HD candidate Nancy Riley.

"It would have been nice to know," Jovan said. "I like to think people do things, you know, just straight, why not?"

Other candidates interviewed at the screening said Hebert disclosed that he was consulting for opponents and gave them the option not to proceed. Hebert said he was aware of the potential conflicts and his failure to warn Jovan was not intentional.

More from today's Pinellas Political Junkie Column - including Riley's announcement that she intends to step down as president-elect of the Florida Association of Realtors - is here.
