Sen. George LeMieux departed today for Afghanistan to "survey military conditions on the ground, review intelligence gathering procedures, and meet with high-ranking American and Afghan officials," his office said.

He is traveling with Richard Burr, R-NC, and Sheldon Whitehouse, D-RI. They return Monday.
