Sen. Marco Rubio's chief of staff: Cesar Conda

conda.jpgSen. Marco Rubio today will name Cesar Conda as his chief of staff. Conda is a Capitol Hill veteran, worked as senior domestic policy adviser for Vice President Dick Cheney, was an analyst and lobbyist for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and an economic adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.

He co-founded Navigators in Washington, D.C., the lobbying/consulting firm where Todd Harris once worked, and advised Rubio on policy during campaign then headed his transition.

Conda, like many Republicans, once considered Charlie Crist as the best choice for senator. But he later repudiated the governor, saying he lacked conservative cred.

"I had a chance to meet with Rubio right before Christmas," Conda wrote in National Review in February 2010. "He struck me as someone who was genuinely interested in nitty-gritty of public policy; a true policy wonk who had championed 100 reform ideas when he was the Speaker of the Florida house. Furthermore, I came away thinking that Marco Rubio is someone conservatives could trust to go to Washington and take on President Obama and congressional liberals as they move to massively expand government."

Conda is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
