Sen. Storms honors guardians for kids in wake of child slayings
Sen. Ronda Storms persuaded the state Senate to honor guardians ad litem today, noting the horrible abuse case in South Florida that claimed the lives of two children -- killings that happened despite the warnings of a court-appointed guardians.
"That guardian ad litem was a watchman on the wall," said Storms, praising those who look after endangered children "these little bruised and broken and hurt people....I wanted to say, thank you Guardians Ad Litem. You're not here today. You're doing important work."
A backgrounder is here. This isn't just a run-of-the-mill observation. It's a set up for tomorrow's Children & Families Committee, which Storms chairs. Expect the Department of Children and Families to have some major explaining to do. The scandal, which unfolded under Gov. Rick Scott's watch, could have political dynamics as well.
