Senate joins gambling suit against Crist
The Florida Senate this morning filed a "friend of the court" motion in the lawsuit challenging Gov. Charlie Crist's gambling compact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
“Governor Crist had the very best interest of the state in mind when he worked with the Seminole Tribe,” Senate President Ken Pruitt said. “I believe the governor properly exercised his authority to negotiate a compact, however, in order for the compact to be valid it must be approved by the Legislature.”
House Speaker Marco Rubio filed the suit earlier this month, asserting that Crist violated the separation of powers by crafting an agreement without legislative approval. Oral arguments are set for Dec. 12.
