Senate passes budget cuts
UPDATE 2:50 p.m. The House passed the budget by a 74-43 vote.
The Florida Senate voted 27-13 mostly along party lines to pass a budget that cuts more than $2-billion. Only Sen. Gary Siplin voted with Republicans.
One of the more interesting quotes came from Sen. Jeremy Ring, who said he was concerned that the Legislature was not doing enough to address the cause of Florida's recession.
"This state's economy was a house of cards. ... It's a service economy, and there's no foundation behind it. We don't have a stable economy in this state. ... How do we build a long-lasting stable economy so
we're not back here again and again? The fear is if this country emerges from this recession Florida won't emerge with it," Ring said.
The Senate is in sine die.
