Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos said former Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer should receive the $123,000 severance package he approved (and denied existed) if Greer is acquitted of charges of grand theft and money laundering for allegedly siphoning money out of the state party through a secret fundraising contract with the party.

"What I've said all along is if he did nothing wrong, he should get a severance package," Haridopolos told reporters. "If it's found by a jury of his peers that he's innocent, I imagine he will be compensated. Now I think that only fair...But if he's convicted of the crimes then he obviously won't get the severance package because he did not keep the contract."
