Senator Nan Rich considering a run for governor

Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich of Weston is so unhappy with Gov. Rick Scott, she's thinking about running against him in 2014. Term limits will force Rich out of office next year.

Rich has long been an advocate for children and social service issues. Rich told The Buzz she feels those issues aren't getting the proper attention from the Republican-controlled Governor's Office and Legislature.

"A budget is a blueprint for your priorities and the budget unfortunately has not reflected my priorities and values when it comes to funding for things like children's issues and senior issues as well," Rich said.

Last month, she criticized the state's Republican leadership for accepting federal funds for abstinence only programs, but turning down millions more for protective programs for children and senior citizens.

"We should be getting our fair share and not be obstinate about taking federal  money that will just go to other states if we don't decide to take it," she said.
