The House and Senate moments ago, at 5:39 p.m. to be exact, concluded its special session on property insurance. After House Speaker Marco Rubio and Senate President Ken Pruitt spoke by telephone, the ceremonial hankie was dropped. Rubio, Pruitt and scores of other lawmakers are now on fourth floor of the Capitol, addressing reporters.
"On Nov. 7, we got it," Pruitt said.
Moments later, Gov. Charlie Crist and Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp arrived. "To the governor who professed to be the people's governor, you have proven it, sir," Pruitt said.
"They said it couldn't be done," Crist said. "Remember, they said this could not be done. And here we are."
The House voted 116-2 in favor of the sweeping insurance legislation, with Reps. Don Brown and Dennis Ross dissenting. The Senate was unanimously in favor.
