Sink: Keep My Safe Florida Home
Florida CFO Alex Sink urged lawmakers today to keep the My Safe Florida Home program, which helps residents harden homes from hurricane damage. It's one of four requests Sink is asking of lawmakers to help reduce the state's risk from storms.
Other priorities include reducing the size of the state catastrophe fund, which would lower people's risk of paying damages through assessments. She also wants the Legislature to ween the state from its dependence on Citizens Property Insurance Corp., returning it to be the insurer of "last resort" by following a recent task force report.
“It’s time to start making smart decisions and enacting solutions, so that Florida will be less financially exposed when a major storm hits," she said.
