Sink releases $6.5-million for Minouche Noel
CFO Alex Sink said today that she issued a $6.5-million check to Minouche Noel, the South Florida teenager who was paralyzed by a botched surgery as an infant in 1989. "She needs this money to help her as she begins her life as a young adult, and we will continue to fight hard to make sure she and her family get all of the money the Legislature awarded them," Sink said in a news release.
Still in limbo is a $2-million claims award for Minouche's parents. The money is being held up over a dispute how much lawyers should get. Sink and other top politicians said they will fight any attempt to increase the award, set at just over $1-million, plus $85,000 for lobbyists. (Times photo | Willie J. Allen Jr.)
