Smith in North Florida

26

August

Rod Smith spent most of Saturday in North Florida, where he talked about some things that don't often come up down south.

In a speech to about 50 Perry Democrats, Smith dispelled a rumor that he was anti-gun or wanted to take guns away. Smith said Republicans were trying to spread such rumors and that he's a hunter who supports the Second Amendment. Smith told the audience that if they hear such a rumor: "You tell them, I've talked to him, and that's a bunch of bunk. It ain't about to happen," he said at the Forest Capital Hall.

He also had pretty harsh words about Jim Davis' insurance plan. "It does just the opposite of what insurance is supposed to do. It condenses risk instead of spread risk. If you're voting for lower insurance in Florida, you vote for the plan the Democrats are supporting. You do not vote for my opponent's plan. You do not vote for my opponent. He will drive rates higher, and that's all you need to know about that subject."

He also gave two speeches in Monticello, including one at a farm owned by a local trial attorney, where some 200 Democrats gobbled down jumbo shrimp and oysters, and those were just the appetizers.
