Something fishy about Fred's interest in drilling?
Did this guy come to Fred Thompson's Cape Coral rally (we saw him in Jacksonville too) courtesy of Mandy Fletcher at team Mitt or Karen Unger at team Rudy? No idea, but Fred Thompson Florida director Andy Palmer contends the shark confided in him that he's a Thompson fan.
The former Tennessee senator drew at least 500 people to fast-growing Cape Coral today, becoming the first Republican presidential contender to do a southwest Florida campaign event. Once again he found a lot of people pegging him as the answer to their prayers: "I've been fighting to find a candidate I can support. Fred is so straight forward and comes off so logical, he's the kind of candidate people have been screaming for,'' said David Nelson, a retiree from Fort Myers Beach.
But maybe not staunch opponents of Gulf drilling, who don't seem to have an ally in Thompson: We've got to use all the resources available to us."

Here's what Thompson, a few hundred feet from the Gulf, said when asked about drilling in the Eastern Gulf: "We've got to use all the resources that are available to us. weve got to it in an environmentally safe matter, weve got to be respectful and inclsive of trhe people that are most involved in the area, but I would not rule out our Gulf areas in terms of that if we have resources there. We've got to do everything that we can possibly do, including using our own reserves and using our own potential here in this country."
