Speaker Cannon will reshuffle the House deck
House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, sent all House members a memo Friday notifying them of his plans to make changes to the membership of House committees. Under House rules, committee appointments are for one year, not two, and Cannon says he does not intend to make "significant" changes.
All House members were told to fill out a form listing their committee assignment preferences with instructions to return it by July 15. The assignments will be made by Aug. 15, Cannon said.
Cannon did announce a decision to merge the House Economic Development & Tourism Subcommittee with the Business & Consumer Affairs Subcommittee because of "subject matter overlap." The tourism subcommittee had been chaired by Rep. Doug Holder, R-Sarasota.
