St. Pete City Council opposes ax to after school funds
The Florida Legislature's plan to stop allowing School Readiness dollars to be used for afterschool care for children 5-12 has largely flown under the radar outside of Tallahassee. But Thursday, the same day the Tampa Bay Times printed this critical editorial, the St. Petersburg City Council also weighed in its opposition with legislative leaders. "This proposed legislation will have a significant negative impact both financially and programmatically on our hard-working, low income families," Council Chairwoman Leslie Curran wrote in a letter to House Speaker Dean Cannon.
