Talking with teachers, Meek tears up
During his speech to the FEA delegates this morning, Kendrick Meek defiantly said he was staying in the race. As some members stood applauding, others clapped politely but didn’t stand. Some members didn’t even clap as Meek spoke.
As Meek got off the stage and headed for an exit, teachers flocked to him and hugged him. One woman had tears streaming down her face. Meek also teared up.
Afterward, as he spoke to reporters before heading back to Miami, Meek said he was more determined then ever. "Those teachers with tears on their faces, saying ‘We need you,’ that means something," he said.
He said he doesn’t believe polls that show he’s too far down to win. "If we believe in polls, we don’t need elections," Meek said. "But I don’t believe in polls. The only poll I believe in is the one on Nov. 2."
