They didn't vote. Will you?
Rod Jones, who is running for state House District 54, is part of a regrettable list for politicians – candidates asking for votes this fall, but who once decided not to vote themselves.
Jones, a Republican and the son of state Sen. Dennis Jones, was bicycling around the world in 2000 and did not vote in the tantalizingly close 2000 presidential election. Surprisingly, though, he's far from alone. In fact, of Pinellas County's 80 candidates running for office this year, 32 (40 percent) missed a primary or general election vote since 1996, according to Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections voting records. Nine candidates missed a vote in a fall presidential election.
Also on the list of those who missed votes in the general election, state House candidates Charlie Gerdes (2000, 1998), David Vecchio (1996), Ken Peluso (1998) and state Senate candidate Kim Berfield (1996).
