Two Rods

Trying to make something of Rod Smith's focus on South Florida, (he has set up shop in Palm Beach County), the Republican Party of Florida sent an e-mail Saturday accusing him of abandoning his rural roots. "In a race to the left, Rod Smith is now attempting to be everything to every Floridian, a moderate Democrat while in North Florida, playing up his support for the Second Amendment, but a liberal South Floridian that can be called 'one of their own' when he is out with extremely liberal Democratic Primary voters of Broward and Palm Beach Counties."

The Palm Beach Post story the e-mail plays off provides more context than the GOP. Smith grew up in the county but left after college. "It'll be great for Palm Beach County to have one of their own in the governor's mansion," he told the Post's Brian Crowley.

Smith spokesman David Kochman told the Buzz: "The fact is, Rod Smith grew up on a farm and has deep roots in South Florida, has represented 11 counties in North Florida as a state attorney and state senator, and when he wins this election, he’ll be a governor for all of Florida."
