Update: Ethics Complaint Boomerangs

An ethics complaint filed by "L.G. McClure" of Tallahassee against Charlie Crist (see below) didn't get far. The Commission on Ethics promptly mailed it back to the accuser Wednesday because the complaint alleged violations of the election laws, which are not under the ethics commission's jurisdiction.

"We don't have jurisdiction over the election laws," said ethics spokeswoman Kerrie Stillman. "In order for us to investigate, there has to be an allegation against the code of ethics." Stillman said the complaint was defective for a second reason: It was filed against "the Charlie Crist campaign," not any individual. "We don't deal with complaints against entities," Stillman said.

In the complaint, McClure gave no phone number and a Tallahassee post office box for an address. The Buzz can't find an "L.G. McClure" in the Tallahassee area, and the signature of the notary who notarized the complaint is illegible. But we're still looking.
