Vern Buchanan to President Obama: Open up health care talks
U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota, has written a letter today to President Barack Obama asking that he force open the closed-door negotiations over health care legislation.
"Excluding the public and press from this process sends a disturbing message," Buchanan writes. "A government that is secretive and inaccessible cannot maintain the trust and confidence of the people it serves."
Congress routinely acts this way and Republicans held their share of private talks. But Obama pledged on the campaign trail to let the sun shine on the health care negotiations, even saying that C-SPAN would broadcast it all. This week, C-SPAN has asked Democratic leaders to make good on that promise.
